In Greek mythology, Narcissus was a youth of remarkable beauty who drew admiration wherever he went. Though many sought his affection, he was known for his pride and lack of compassion, dismissing every admirer without a second thought. One day, the gods decided to punish his arrogance. While walking through the forest, Narcissus came across a clear, still pool of water. Leaning over to drink, he saw a face of perfect beauty staring back at him. Not realizing it was his own reflection, he became captivated and could not look away. Day after day, he stayed by the water’s edge, unable to touch or possess the image he adored. Eventually, his strength faded, and he died where he had fallen. In that spot, a flower grew that bore his name, serving as a lasting reminder of self-obsession and the danger of excessive vanity.
