Eliis Kuusk “Chronos”
“Kronos: Cosmic, Chaotic & Chronic”, where artist Eliis Kuusk delved into the perception and sensation of time. The exhibition opened at Victoria Olt Gallery in Tallinn’s Old Town in May and June 2024, offering a visual exploration of time’s elusive nature through Kuusk’s unique paintings.
"I don’t know how I feel about time, so the only way I can express it is through painting," Eliis explains when discussing the inspiration behind her works. This honest reflection is evident in her creations, where she attempts to grasp the complexity and uncertainty of time. The artist raises thought-provoking questions: Is time circular or does it flow? Her answers manifest as dreamlike paintings, filled with vibrant colors and amorphous figures that seem to melt into the canvas.
"Coming from a background in film, I’ve always been fascinated by movement, rhythm, and time. In this series of paintings, I try to convey these same qualities," the artist explains. “Kronos” is Eliis Kuusk’s second solo exhibition at Victoria Olt Gallery.
Eliis studied film at the London College of Communication and digital effects at the National Film and Television School in London. Upon returning to Estonia, she shifted her focus more toward painting. Her style emphasizes movement and vivid colors, using rough brushstrokes to blend and distort figures into otherworldly characters
