Riso Chan “Flora’s Garden”

'“Step into Flora's garden, where I paint blooms onto the dreams of the future and the scars of the past. My artwork serves as a visual journal of my emotions, a canvas where I explore color, playfulness, and portraiture. In this exhibition, I invite you to step into my imagination, a space where being a bit weird is celebrated.”

On May 3rd 2024, Victoria Olt Gallery opened the exhibition “Flora’s Garden” by Spanish artist Riso Chan, offering a glimpse into the artist’s vibrant world of imagination. The exhibition will remain open until June 30, 2024.

This exhibition featured Riso Chan’s unique artworks, where portraits are intertwined with flowers, which the artist describes as being painted for the dreams of the future and the scars of the past. The pieces function as a visual diary of Riso Chan’s emotions, exploring colors, playfulness, and the art of portraiture.

"I invite you to step into my imagination, a space where celebrating being a little strange is encouraged," the artist explained, introducing the exhibition. Riso works with both watercolor and the digital tool Procreate, allowing her to create digitally while still retaining the feel of traditional craftsmanship in her artworks.

Angela Maria Sierra, known as Riso Chan, is an artist and creative educator based in Zwolle. Growing up in an artistic environment, her mother, a sculptor, inspired her to explore her creativity from an early age. Riso believes that portraits can be a powerful way to express emotions and the human experience, acting as a language of their own that requires no words. As a result, portraiture is the central theme in most of her works.

This was Riso Chan’s first solo exhibition at Victoria Olt Gallery and in Estonia. Her works were previously featured in a group exhibition at the gallery dedicated to the theme of art collections.
