“For people diagnosed with autism and ADHD, the surrounding world is often just too overwhelming. Our brains are overstimulated, and it’s even difficult to be in our own bodies. We’ve often learned to punish ourselves in these situations because, as children, we were punished when we expressed our emotions in this state. Now, I want to give my inner child the space to express their discomfort, and one way to do that is through art: the right to create defiant art and show empathy towards myself in such moments. The childish octopus is inspired by a toy that can be flipped to reflect your mood: bad mood or good mood. It’s also a way to express yourself when words no longer come out.”
