It is common for people with ADHD to have constantly changing interests. As a child, these phases were often dismissed with the notion that they would change, as if these interests didn’t matter because they wouldn’t last. But for me, all my interests are very important, regardless of how long they last. This is a natural part of discovering our identity: finding out what interests us and what doesn’t. It’s a natural and enjoyable way to discover oneself and find common interests and joys with others. Similarly, I’ve never understood gender roles when it comes to hobbies: I’m equally interested in cars and motorcycles as I am in toys and perfumes. Gender roles are an active game in which we participate, either consciously or unconsciously.
